In a study [1], researchers used vagal tone as a health index. Vagal tone is the difference in the heart rate between breathing-in and breathing-out; the larger the difference, the better your health. In addition, it is linked to mental health.
Participants took part in a nine-week experiment, where they went on to a website everyday and were asked to consider nine positive and eleven negative emotions. Half the participants were encouraged to meditate daily, and to report the time they spent doing so. Participants had their vagal tone checked before and after the experiment.
Who increased their vagal tone more?
